Will a facelift make me look younger?

Will a facelift make me look younger?

Do you look older than you feel? If so, you can rejuvenate your face with a facelift. Excess sun exposure, gravity and stress, are some of the factors that can contribute to facial aging, because they undermine the strength and elasticity of the skin. But will a facelift make you look younger.

Will a facelift make me look younger?

Yes, a facelift will make you look younger than before, because it addresses signs of aging on the face and neck.

A facelift or rhytidectomy is designed to refresh your appearance and make you look more youthful. It tightens sagging skin and lifts the deep facial tissues, and in so doing, it reduces lines and folds around the mouth, and firms jowls and loose neck skin.

Today’s facelift methods produce softer, more natural-looking results, because they focus on repositioning and tightening the underlying muscles and connective tissues (learn more).

Is a facelift worth it

Although a facelift won’t make you look 20 years old again, it can take several years off your appearance, and sculpt a more youthful face. The results of a facelift can last 10 years or more. Even though you will experience signs of aging after a facelift, you will always look younger by several years, so there are significant benefits (read more).

Since a facelift targets the lower third of the face, it is often combined with other procedures such as an eyelid lift or brow lift, for patients needing comprehensive facial rejuvenation.

How much does laser tattoo removal cost

How much does laser tattoo removal cost

Are you experiencing tattoo regret? Thanks to innovations in laser technology, removing a tattoo is quicker and less painful than it once was. However, since laser technology is involved, cost is an important consideration. But how much does laser tattoo removal cost.

How laser tattoo removal works

The laser energy selectively targets the tattoo ink in the skin. The ink particles absorb the laser energy, and the resulting heat breaks down the particles into tiny fragments. These fragments are cleared away by the body’s immune system in the weeks following treatment.

How much does laser tattoo removal cost

The cost of laser tattoo removal can range from $200 to $500. The variability of the cost is due to factors such as color, size, and the type of technology.

Factors that affect the cost of laser tattoo removal

When it comes to laser tattoo removal, colour is a prime consideration, because some colours are harder to remove than others, and will therefore require more treatments. Black is the easiest tattoo ink to remove, because it absorbs the laser wavelength easily. Consequently, all-black tattoos are usually the least expensive to treat.

The type of technology used, is another factor that can affect the cost of laser tattoo removal. PicoWay is an advanced laser that removes tattoos faster and more efficiently than older technologies. PicoWay is a high-energy picosecond laser that removes a wide range of tattoo ink colours, and is safe for use on all skin tones and skin types.

In addition, larger tattoos typically cost more to remove because they require more laser time than smaller tattoos.

Is it safe to remove leg veins?

Is it safe to remove leg veins?

Are you thinking of getting that aching leg vein removed, but wonder if it’s the right thing to do.  Like most patients, you’re probably concerned that eliminating a leg vein could lead to health problems later on.   So it is safe to remove leg veins.

Is it safe to remove leg veins?

Yes, leg veins can be safely removed without causing any health issues.  Sclerotherapy is the most common treatment for leg veins, and it is a very safe procedure.

Veins on the legs are typically varicose veins that develop as a result of damage to the tiny one-way valve in the veins.  Leg veins push the blood towards the heart, and the one-way valves prevent the backward flow of blood.   However, if these valves become weak or damaged, the blood can leak backward and collect in the veins.  This puts undue pressure on the vein walls, causing the veins to become enlarged.

Varicose and spider veins in the legs are damaged veins, which hinder circulation because they prevent the blood from flowing efficiently.    Since these veins are not working properly, it’s quite safe to remove them.  Once the affected veins are removed, blood will be rerouted through healthy veins.

Benefits of removing leg veins

Damaged leg veins actually put additional pressure on healthy veins, so when they are removed the venous system can function optimally.  Removing varicose veins in the legs will also relieve any associated symptoms such as aching pain, leg cramping, and leg fatigue.

What is recovery time for a neck lift?

What is recovery time for a neck lift?

If you are considering a neck lift, it’s important to know what to expect during the healing process, in order to determine the best road to recovery.  It’s therefore essential to ask your plastic surgeon what is the recovery time for a neck lift.

A neck lift is a cosmetic procedure that is done to smooth and firm the neck skin, to reduce visible signs of aging.   Aging and rapid weight loss can cause the skin on the neck to look saggy and wrinkled, but a neck lift restores a smoother, more youthful profile.

What’s involved in a neck lift?

During a neck lift the surgeon will remove excess skin, and tighten the neck muscles.  A neck lift can be done in combination with a facelift, to achieve optimal facial rejuvenation (learn more).

What is recovery time for a neck lift?

It typically takes 2-4 weeks to recover from a neck lift.   Patients generally need to take about 2 weeks off work after surgery, and most of the swelling and bruising should resolve by this time.

What to expect during neck lift recovery

Bruising, numbness, and swelling should be expected after a neck lift, but keeping the head elevated will help to minimize swelling.  Rest is recommended for the first few days following surgery, so patients will need help with household chores.  Activities that involve twisting or bending the neck should be avoided during this time, as well as heavy lifting.

The new neck contours become visible within a few weeks, but final results take 3-6 months.

How long do facelift results last?

How long do facelift results last?

Would you like to rejuvenate your face and reverse the effects of time and excess sun exposure?  A facelift is the best way to restore the youthful appearance of your face.  One question frequently asked by people considering facelift surgery is – “How long do facelift results last?”

How long do facelift results last?

The results of a well-done facelift typically last 10 years, but this will vary for each patient.  During facelift surgery the skin and under layer of the muscles are tightened, but as the natural aging process continues the muscles will relax again over time.  While the results of a facelift won’t last forever, the procedure can help to delay the signs of aging.

Factors that impact how long a facelift lasts

  • Skin condition:  Patients with healthy skin typically respond better to facelift surgery, and achieve long-lasting outcomes.
  • Age: People that get a facelift before the age of 60 generally enjoy the results for a long time.
  • Surgeon skill and experience: When a facelift is performed by a skilled, knowledgeable plastic surgeon, the results tend to last longer.

3 Tips that can help your facelift last longer

  1. Take care of your skin: Using high-quality skin care products will help keep the skin firm and hydrated after a facelift.  It’s also important to get professional aesthetic treatments regularly, and wear sunscreen routinely.
  2. Don’t smoke. Smoking speeds up the aging process.
  3. Drink lots of water.  Water hydrates the skin, and will therefore keep the face looking vibrant and youthful.

How should I prep for my facelift?

How should I prep for my facelift?

If you have consulted with a plastic surgeon and booked to have facelift surgery, it’s important to use the weeks before surgery to make the necessary preparations for the operation.  But how should you prep for your facelift.

Things to do to prepare for facelift surgery:

  1. If you smoke, it’s best to stop smoking at least 6 weeks before surgery.  Smoking can cause anesthesia-related complications, and hinder the healing process.
  2. Stop taking blood thinning medications such as aspirin at least 2 weeks before surgery, as they prevent the blood from clotting and cause bleeding.  You should also stop taking any nutritional supplements, diet pills, pain killers, and anti-inflammatory drugs at this time.
  3. Lab work requested by your plastic surgeon should be done at least 2 weeks prior to surgery.
  4. Fill prescriptions for post-op medications, so they will be ready for you after the operation.
  5. Drink plenty of water in the days leading up to surgery, to ensure that you are properly hydrated.
  6. Make arrangements with a family member or friend to drive you home after surgery, because you won’t be able to drive yourself.
  7. Do not eat or drink after midnight on the evening before surgery.

Making adequate plans, and taking care of your body in the weeks before facelift surgery, will help to ensure that you achieve the quality results you desire.   It’s also important to schedule at least 2 weeks off work, so that you have adequate time to heal.

When can I return to work after a breast augmentation?

When can I return to work after a breast augmentation?

If you’ve made the decision to have breast augmentation, there are probably many questions you have about the procedure, including the length of the recovery.  Knowing when you can return to work after a breast augmentation is especially important, so that you can make the necessary preparations.

When can I return to work after a breast augmentation?

Most breast augmentation patients can return to work about 1 week after surgery, but this will vary depending on the type of job.  If you have a desk job this timeline should be suitable, but if your job requires a lot of physical activity, you will need additional time off.

During consultation it’s best to ask your surgeon when it’s safe to go back to work and resume normal activities.

Patients that are diligent to follow the post-surgical instructions of their plastic surgeon are usually able to return to work within a few days.   There are also advanced implant techniques that surgeons can use to help minimize recovery after breast augmentation

Recovery after breast augmentation

Factors such as implants size, type, and placement are some of the variables that can affect recovery after breast augmentation. However, it’s important to remember that the healing process takes time, so you need to get plenty of rest to ensure that the body heals properly.

Most patients experience moderate discomfort during the first 3-5 days after breast augmentation, so help will be needed at home during this time.  Full recovery can take up to 6 weeks.

Does an abdominoplasty leave big scars?

Does an abdominoplasty leave big scars?

When it comes to abdominoplasty, potential scarring is a big concern for most patients.  They typically want to know if abdominoplasty leaves big scars, and what can be done to make scars less noticeable.

What is Abdominoplasty?

Abdominoplasty, also known as a tummy tuck, is a surgical procedure that is done to flatten the tummy by removing excess skin and fat, and tightening the underlying muscles (learn more).

Does an abdominoplasty leave big scars?

The size and shape of the scar after abdominoplasty, will depend on the amount of excess skin and fatty tissue that has to be removed from the lower abdomen.

A full abdominoplasty is typically required for patients that have a lot of excess skin and fat to remove.  The incision for a full tummy tuck is made just above the pubic area, and leaves a scar that extends from hip to hip.  However, the scar is usually hidden under the bikini line, so it’s not visible when wearing a bikini or underwear.

A mini-tummy tuck is performed when patients have a small amount of skin and fat to eliminate.  This incision leaves a scar that is a little longer than a C-section scar.

The incisions from and a tummy tuck heal well over time, and fade significantly after about 1 year (read more).

Is it possible to reduce scarring with abdominoplasty?

It is possible to minimize scarring with abdominoplasty by planning properly for the incisions, and caring for the scar after surgery.  Post surgical treatments such as laser therapy and microneedling can also help to reduce the appearance of scars.

Am I At Risk For Varicose Veins?

Am I At Risk For Varicose Veins?

Do you have a family member struggling with unsightly varicose veins?   Although varicose veins are harmless in most cases, they can sometimes cause health issues when left untreated.  It’s therefore important to know if you are at risk for this vascular condition.

What are varicose veins?

Varicose veins are twisted, enlarged veins that are typically seen on the legs.  They usually occur because of a deficiency in the one-way valves in the vein, which hinders the ability of the blood to flow out of the vein, which causes it to become swollen and puffy (read more).

Am I at risk for varicose veins?

The following factors may increase your risk for varicose veins:

  • Obesity:  People that are overweight are more likely to develop varicose veins because excessive weight can impede blood circulation, and cause the valve in the vein to weaken.
  • Pregnancy: Varicose veins are common in pregnant women, due to hormonal changes.  Hormonal fluctuations can cause the walls of the blood vessel to weaken and increase pressure in the leg veins, resulting in varicose veins.
  • Sitting or standing for long periods: When you remain in one position for a long time the blood does not circulate as it should, causing the blood to pool in the vein.
  • Gender: Women are more likely to develop varicose veins, because they have higher levels of the hormone progesterone.  Researchers believe that progesterone can cause the veins to dilate, and this in turn damages the valves in the veins.
  • Family history of the condition:  If you have family members with varicose veins, there is a greater chance you will develop them too.

Is Laser Tattoo Removal Painful?

Is Laser Tattoo Removal Painful?

Have you decided to get laser therapy to remove a tattoo you no longer like?  If so, you are probably anxious to find out exactly how painful laser tattoo removal is likely to be.

How laser tattoo removal works

The laser emits a beam of light that breaks up the ink particles deposited in the deep dermal layer of the skin.   The resulting heat shatters the ink particles, which are then removed by the white blood cells in the body over the following weeks.

How many laser tattoo removal treatments will I need?

Depending on the type of laser technology being used, laser tattoo removal can take anywhere from 5-6 treatments.

Does laser tattoo removal hurt?

It’s important to remember that tattoos are designed to be permanent, so the ink used is inserted into the deep layer of the skin.  As a result, patients will experience some discomfort during laser tattoo removal, because the laser heats the ink particles to very high temperatures.

Also, some areas such as the hands and feet are more sensitive, so removing a tattoo from these areas may be uncomfortable.  However, most patients agree that having laser tattoo removal is less painful than having a laser inked.

Doctors use skin numbing options such as numbing creams and ice packs, to minimize pain during laser tattoo removal.

Enlighten laser for tattoo removal

The Enlighten laser by Cutera is a less painful option for laser tattoo removal.  Enlighten is a cutting-edge laser that uses Pico technology to remove tattoos, which allows it to deliver heat faster and more efficiently.
