How Can I Treat Varicose Veins?

Do you suffer from unsightly, uncomfortable varicose veins?  Varicose veins are not only a cosmetic issue, they may also be a sign of vein disease.   Left untreated, varicose veins can lead to serious medical issues such as ulcers and bleeding. So how can varicose veins be treated?

What Are Varicose Veins?

Varicose veins are enlarged, twisted veins that typically appear on the legs.  They develop as a result of the malfunction of the one-way valves in the veins.  When the valves fail, blood leaks backward and pools in the veins.

How Can I Treat Varicose Veins?

Treatments for varicose veins involve closing or removing the damaged vein.  Effective treatments include:

Endovenous Laser Ablation (EVLA)

EVLA is a procedure that uses heat from a laser to treat varicose veins.  Ultrasound is used to map out the vein and then a laser fiber is inserted into the damaged vein.  The laser emits light energy along the length of the vein wall, causing the vein to close.  Patients will be up and walking after the procedure, but the leg will be wrapped in a compression garment.  EVLA is an outpatient procedure that is performed under local anesthetic.

VenaSeal

The VenaSeal system is a treatment in which medical-grade adhesive is used to close and seal the problematic vein.   A small incision is made through which the medical adhesive is injected via a catheter.  The VenaSeal closes the walls of the diseased vein.  Once the vein is sealed, blood will be rerouted through healthy veins.

Endovenous Radiofrequency (EVRF)

EVRF uses radiofrequency (RF) ablation to treat varicose veins.  The RF energy is delivered to the vein using a catheter inserted through a small incision below the knee.   The RF energy causes the vein to collapse and it is eventually absorbed by the body.

If you are ready to take action against varicose veins, these minimally invasive treatments can provide the relief you need.
