Am I A Good Candidate For A Breast Augmentation?

If you would like fuller, shapelier breasts, breast augmentation can give you the well-proportioned breasts you desire. After breast augmentation, you are sure to love your balanced curves and new silhouette. However, it’s important to first consult with a plastic surgeon to determine if you are a good candidate for a breast augmentation.

Benefits of breast augmentation

Breast augmentation can transform the appearance of your breasts, and help you achieve the breast size and look you’ve always wanted. Many women experience a boost in self-confidence and self-esteem after breast augmentation, due to the enhanced appearance of their breasts.

Am I A Good Candidate For A Breast Augmentation?

If you think your breasts are too small, or out of proportion with the rest of your body, you might be a good candidate for breast augmentation surgery. Perhaps you have lost breast volume in the aftermath of pregnancy and breastfeeding, or due to weight loss or aging. If the loss of volume has made you uncomfortable and unhappy with the deflated appearance of your breasts, breast augmentation can restore fullness and shape (read more).

As with any other type of surgery, you will need to be in good health to undergo breast augmentation. You should also be in excellent psychological health, and have realistic expectations of the type of outcome you are likely to achieve.

What is Mohs surgery

What is Mohs surgery?

Skin cancer is extremely common, especially among people that spend a lot of time in the sun, and neglect skin care. But despite the seriousness of the condition, skin cancer is one of the most treatable forms of cancer, as long as it is diagnosed at an early stage. Mohs surgery is a precise and effective procedure that has been very successful in treating certain types of skin cancer. But what exactly is Mohs surgery, and how is it performed.

What is Mohs surgery?

Mohs surgery, also known as Mohs micrographic surgery is a highly specialized surgical technique that is used to treat skin cancer, especially basal cell carcinoma (BCC), and squamous cell carcinoma (SCC). The procedure is named after Dr. Frederic Mohs who developed the technique in the 1930’s, while at the University of Wisconsin.

Mohs micrographic surgery has the highest cure rate of all skin cancer surgeries. The precise surgical technique used to carry out Mohs surgery focuses on removing only the skin that has cancer cells, so it helps to preserve as much of the healthy tissue as possible. This makes it the preferred treatment option for cancer that occurs in sensitive areas where there is not a lot of skin to spare, such as the face, neck, and hands.

What’s involved in Mohs Surgery?

Mohs surgery is performed as an outpatient procedure under local anesthesia, so patients are awake throughout. Surgery is performed at a surgical facility with a laboratory, so that the cancer tissue excised can be examined on site, while the patient waits.

There are several steps involved in Mohs surgery. At the start of the procedure, local anesthesia is injected into the affected area, in order to minimize discomfort during the operation.

The surgeon will then excise the visible portion of the tumor above the skin, along with a thin layer of skin around and below the tumor. The specimen is divided into sections, each of which is color coded with dyes. Marks are also made on the skin, so that the area from which the specimen was taken can be easily identified. The specimen is then examined under the microscope, to see if there is any sign of cancer cells.

If cancer is detected, the surgeon will go back and take a bit more tissue from the exact area where the cancer cells remain. The layer of tissue is again analyzed under the microscope, and the process is repeated until all traces of cancer are gone.

Depending on the size of the wound, the incision may be sutured, or left to heal on its own. There are also cases in which the wound may be quite extensive, and require reconstructive surgery.

The duration of Mohs surgery varies, because it depends on the extent of cancer that has to be removed, so surgery may take a couple hours or the entire day.

Advantages of Mohs surgery

  • Mohs surgery is a very thorough technique because it removes the cancer one tissue layer at a time, until no cancer cells remain. This surgical method is able to effectively target the extensions of the tumor that are below the surface of the skin, and therefore not visible. This significantly reduces the chances of cancer recurring.
  • Provides the best cosmetic outcome, as it preserves as much healthy skin tissue as possible.
  • Performed under local anesthesia, so patients don’t have to be concerned about the risks associated with general anesthesia.
  • Minimal scarring makes Mohs surgery ideal for treating cancer on delicate areas like the face and hands.

What is recovery like after Mohs Surgery?

There may be some localized swelling and bruising after Mohs surgery, but this should resolve within 5-7 days. Discomfort is minimal, but pain medication is prescribed as required. Physical activity should be limited for at least 7 days after Mohs surgery, to give the wound enough time to heal.

How Much Time Do I Need To Take Off Work For A Breast Augmentation?

How Much Time Do I Need To Take Off Work For A Breast Augmentation?

Are you considering breast enhancement surgery? Like most patients, you’re probably concerned about how much time you need to take off work for a breast augmentation. Although the timeline won’t be the same for every patient, it’s essential to get enough rest so that you heal properly, and achieve optimal results.

How much time do you need to take off work for a breast augmentation?

The recovery time needed after breast augmentation varies. While some women feel well enough to go back to work a few days after breast augmentation surgery, others take longer to heal.

Plastic surgeons typically suggest that patients take 5-7 days off work for a breast augmentation. However, there are several factors that can affect recovery including the following:

  • Extent of your breast surgery: If your breast surgery is extensive, or is a combination procedure, you may need more time off after surgery.
  • Your support system: If you have children and don’t have a good support system at home, additional time off may be necessary.
  • Type of job you have: If you have a desk job, you should be able to go back to work within a few days. However, if your job requires heavy lifting, extra recovery time may be required, because it’s essential to avoid lifting anything 10 pounds and over for at least 2 weeks.

Recovery after breast augmentation is unique to each patient, so it is always advisable to adhere to the post-operative guidelines of your plastic surgeon, in order to heal well (click here to learn more).

Can Dermal Fillers Help With Facial Aging?

Can Dermal Fillers Help With Facial Aging?

Are your facial features starting to droop and sag? If so, there are a variety of dermal fillers on the market that can refresh your face, and restore a youthful look. But since facial aging is caused by such diverse factors, you may be wondering if dermal fillers can help with facial aging.

Signs of facial aging

Volume loss and the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles are classic signs of facial aging, and occur due to changes in the structural components of the skin. Over time, the skin produces less collagen and elastin, which are vital proteins that provide necessary support for the skin and keep it plump and elastic.

How dermal fillers help with facial aging

Dermal fillers help with facial aging by restoring youthful volume to areas such as the cheeks and temples, and softening lines and wrinkles.

Dermal fillers, particularly those derived from hyaluronic acid (HA) such as Restylane and Juvederm, are routinely used to restore facial volume and plump wrinkles. HA is a naturally occurring substance that works by attracting and retaining water. Therefore when it is injected into the hollow areas of the face it adds volume, and smooths wrinkles.

Fillers can also be used to augment lips that have lost volume due to age, and fill in deep creases and wrinkles such as nasolabial folds and marionette lines.

Facial rejuvenation with dermal fillers can provide beautiful results for patients wanting a non-surgical anti-aging solution.

Is winter the Best Time for miraDry Laser Treatment?

Is winter the Best Time for miraDry Laser Treatment?

If you suffer from excessive and persistent underarm sweating, even on cold winter days, miraDry may be the solution for you. miraDry can cure your underarm sweating and leave you sweat-free. But since laser treatments are often scheduled in the winter months, you may be wondering if winter is the best time for miraDry treatment.

What is miraDry?

miraDry is a minimally invasive FDA approved treatment for excessive underarm sweating (axillary hyperhidrosis). miraDry uses electromagnetic waves to destroy sweat and odor glands in the underarm, and this shuts down sweat production in the treated areas.

How miraDry works

A temporary tattoo template is placed on the underarms and is used as a guide during treatment. The underarms are then numbed and the miraDry device is placed directly on the targeted areas. The handpiece delivers miraWave energy to destroy the sweat and odor glands.

Side-effects such as swelling and tenderness may occur after miraDry treatment, but there is really no downtime. Most patients need 2 treatments for maximum results.

Is Winter the Best Time for miraDry Laser Treatment?

Winter is a great time to have miraDry treatment, because patients will be sweat-free by the time summer comes around. They can therefore avoid the embarrassment of having sweat soaked underarms during the hot summer months. In addition, they can dare to wear sleeveless clothing and not have to stress about dressing to avoid looking sweaty.

It’s also easier to schedule downtime in the winter if necessary, because most people get extra time off from work during the holidays.

What Are the Most Common Procedures for a Mommy Makeover?

What Are the Most Common Procedures for a Mommy Makeover?

Childbirth and pregnancy can transform a woman’s body in unexpected ways, and even very fit moms sometimes find it difficult to recapture their pre-baby body. When diet and exercise fail, it often takes a mommy makeover to get the body back in shape. But what are the most common procedures for a mommy makeover.

What exactly is a mommy makeover?

A mommy makeover is a combination of surgical procedures that are designed to address body changes that occur as a result of pregnancy. The procedures are generally done in a single surgery session, but there are times when two sessions may be required.

What Are the Most Common Procedures for Mommy Makeover?
The breasts and abdomen are the areas that usually undergo significant changes as a result of pregnancy and breastfeeding, so mommy makeover procedures typically focus on these areas.

A mommy makeover most often includes a breast lift with augmentation, a tummy tuck, and liposuction.

Breast Lift with augmentation

Pregnancy can cause shapely, beautiful breasts to lose volume and become droopy and out of shape. A breast lift with augmentation restores the shape and volume of the breasts.

• A breast lift (mastopexy) improves the appearance of sagging, deflated breasts. Surgery involves removing excess skin that causes the breasts to sag, and reshaping the breast tissue. The breast tissue is lifted to a higher position on the chest wall, and the areola may also need to be reduced.
• A breast augmentation is often combined with a breast lift to provide optimal breast enhancement. Implants augment the breasts and add fullness. Silicone or saline implants are the usual breast implant choices. Silicone implants are filled with silicone gel, while saline implants contain sterile salt water. Breast augmentation makes the breasts larger and improves their overall shape.

Breast enhancement surgery is customized based on the needs and aesthetic goals of each patient, and can be performed using several different techniques.

Tummy tuck

A tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) is a procedure that is done to remove excess skin and fat in the abdomen, and repair separated or weak abdominal muscles. After pregnancy, many women are faced with loose abdominal skin and a pudgy midsection that no amount of diet and exercise can fix. The abdominal muscles often expand during pregnancy and may not return to their original shape after childbirth. A tummy tuck is the only way to flatten the tummy and tone the midsection.

Some women choose to include liposuction in their mommy makeover in order to remove fat bulges that accumulated during pregnancy. By removing these areas of unwanted fat they are able to restore pre-baby body contours. The abdomen, flanks, and thighs are common areas for liposuction.

Liposuction is a surgical procedure that gets rid of pockets of stubborn fat, and tumescent liposuction is the method that is regularly used.

With tumescent liposuction, an anesthetic solution is injected into the treatment area at the start of the procedure. The solution helps to minimize bleeding during and after the operation. Liposuction is performed using a cannula which is inserted into the subcutaneous fat, through tiny incisions made in the targeted area. A cannula is a small thin tube with a suction attached. It is used to break up the fat, which is then removed via suction.

Who is a good candidate for a mommy makeover?

Doctors generally recommend that women considering a mommy makeover should be finished having children. Having children after a mommy makeover might cause a recurrence of some of the very same concerns that were addressed during surgery.

Mommy makeover candidates should have completely recovered from the effects of childbirth and breastfeeding. They should also be in good health, and near or at their ideal weight.

If you are interested in having a mommy makeover, it’s important to consult with a board certified plastic surgeon to determine if you would be a good candidate.

Are erectile dysfunction treatments painful?

Are you experiencing erectile dysfunction? If yes, there is no need to be worried about it because it’s a common condition that affects men all around the world. Unfortunately, many men with erectile dysfunction are embarrassed to talk about it, and don’t want to open up to their doctor about the condition. However there is no need to ignore the problem, because there are effective treatments available. But are these erectile dysfunction treatments painful.

What is Erectile dysfunction

Erectile dysfunction (ED) is a condition in which a man is frequently unable to achieve and maintain an erection. It is a problem that can lead to a lack of sexual desire, and it causes some men to become angry and depressed.

ED may be caused by various factors including stress, chronic diseases such as diabetes and high blood pressure, or injury to the penis. However, ED in older men is often caused by a physical problem such as inadequate blood flow to the penis.

Treatments for erectile dysfunction

There are many treatments for ED but medicines such as Viagra are among the most well-known options. While these drugs are not painful there are potential side effects. Other treatments that have traditionally been available to men with ED include penile injections and vacuum erection devices, which can be somewhat painful. However, there are now newer treatments available such as GAINSWave and the Priapus Shot (P-Shot).

GAINSWave for ED

GAINSWave low-intensity shockwave therapy is a revolutionary therapeutic solution for ED. It is a clinically proven treatment that uses high frequency acoustic waves to improve blood flow to the penis.

GAINSWave is an effective treatment that addresses ED caused by decreased blood flow to the penis, which is typically the result of blocked or narrowed blood vessels. Over time, plaque can accumulate in the vessels going to the penis, resulting in a decline in blood flow. Blood flow is critical to sustaining an erection, as it makes the penis erect and rigid.

How GAINSWave works

During GAINSWave treatment, gentle acoustic waves are applied to different areas of the penis using a probe. The waves break up the plaque and trigger the growth of new blood vessels.

GAINSWave is a simple in-office treatment that takes approximately 20-30 minutes to complete, so it can be easily done in the lunch hour. Most patients notice an improvement in their erections after GAINSWave. A course of 1-2 treatments is recommended, and the effects last for up to 2 years.

Is GAINSWave painful?

GAINSWave is not painful. In fact, most patients find the treatment quite comfortable as a numbing agent is applied at the start of the procedure.

The Priapus Shot for ED

The P-Shot is a minimally invasive procedure that uses platelet rich plasma (PRP) from the patient’s blood to treat ED.

The patient’s blood is withdrawn in much the same manner of a routine blood test, and is then spun in a centrifuge to separate the PRP from the other components of the blood. After being separated, an ultra-thin needle is used to inject the PRP into specific areas of the penis. PRP contains growth factors that stimulate the growth of new tissue, and regenerate blood cells. The P-Shot may also increase the size of the penis.

The P-Shot treatment takes about 30 minutes. After the procedure, patients may experience some tenderness at the injection sites, but there is no downtime.

The P-Shot is seen as an attractive treatment for ED, because it is a completely natural solution. Since the platelets used for the P-Shot are taken from the patient’s own blood there is no chance of an allergic reaction.

Is the P-Shot painful?

The P-Shot is not generally a painful procedure, as the penis is numbed with an anesthetic cream, which is very effective in minimizing any discomfort. Patients may feel a slight pinch as the needle is being inserted, but it’s not painful.

What should I look for in a mommy makeover surgeon?

What should I look for in a mommy makeover surgeon?

Are you considering a mommy makeover, because you are unhappy with some of the body changes brought on by pregnancy? If you are, finding a skilled, experienced surgeon is the best way to ensure that you get the aesthetic outcomes you desire. So let’s explore what exactly you should look for in a mommy makeover surgeon.

Mommy makeover surgery

Mommy makeover surgery has gained popularity in recent years, because it’s a great way to fix body changes after pregnancy that diet and exercise cannot. A mommy makeover typically consists of several procedures including a breast augmentation and/or breast lift, tummy tuck, and liposuction.

In order to get the best results from your mommy makeover, it’s important to choose the right surgeon.

What to look for in a mommy makeover surgeon

Board certification
Any surgeon you are considering for mommy makeover surgery should be certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS). Board certification is a guarantee that the physician has the necessary training and expertise to perform the operation safely, and effectively.

Any surgeon you are considering for mommy makeover surgery should be certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS). Board certification is a guarantee that the physician has the necessary training and expertise to perform the operation safely, and effectively.

Surgeons that are certified by the ABPS receive training in general surgery and also undergo a full plastic surgery residency. ABPS certification is therefore vital for any physician performing cosmetic plastic surgery.

Whereas a general surgeon can legally perform plastic surgery, they do not receive any training in this area. Plastic surgeons are also better equipped to manage an emergency, should one occur. That’s why choosing a board certified plastic surgeon is the safest route.

Extensive surgical experience in mommy makeover
Experience is also vital, so it’s important to find out how long the plastic surgeon has been performing mommy makeover procedures. Choosing an experienced mommy makeover surgeon is crucial, since it is a combination of several procedures that are typically done together in a single operation. Consequently, the plastic surgeon must have plenty of experience performing all the procedures.

Reputation for achieving excellent results
Be sure to ask your surgeon to let you review before-and-after photos of some of their previous mommy makeover patients, to determine if the results meet your expectations.

Browsing through a large portfolio of before-and-after photos of the surgeon’s past patients will help you assess their skill level in the different mommy makeover procedures. This will go a long way in helping to determine if you can trust your surgeon to provide the results you want.

Pleasant Bedside Manner
Success in plastic surgery often begins with a good rapport between surgeon and patient. Therefore choose a surgeon that appreciates your personal concerns about surgery, and clearly understands what you hope to achieve with a mommy makeover.

If a surgeon is not too nice to you during pre-op appointments, chances are they won’t treat you much better after surgery, should you have any problems. So it’s essential to make certain that you are completely comfortable with the surgeon you select, as they will be an integral part of your mommy makeover journey.

You will be relying on your surgeon to take care of you before, during, and after surgery, so look for a compassionate doctor that has your best interests at heart.

Operates in an accredited surgical facility
Plastic surgeons that are ABPS certified operate in surgical facilities that are frequently checked for safety, cleanliness, and quality. Accredited facilities must meet strict safety standards, and the operating facility must be equipped with everything that is needed for a quick response in case of an emergency.

Who is a good candidate for a mommy makeover?

A mommy makeover is a wonderful procedure that can provide incredible results, and give patients a new lease on life. However, it may not be the right option for every woman.

Doctors generally recommend that candidates for mommy makeover surgery be finished having children. They should also be committed to a healthy lifestyle going forward, in order to maintain their new figure after the procedure.

How Long Until My Hyperpigmentation Disappears with IPL Treatment?

How Long Until My Hyperpigmentation Disappears with IPL Treatment?

Do you have sun spots or age spots on your face that you would like to erase? It’s often difficult to treat hyperpigmentation topically, but IPL photorejuvenation is an excellent non-invasive approach. IPL is an effective treatment that leaves the skin clearer and lighter. However, one of the questions patients frequently ask about the procedure is – How long until my hyperpigmentation disappears with IPL treatment.

What is hyperpigmentation?

Hyperpigmentation refers to the discoloration or darkening of the skin, and it can be brought on by factors such as excess sun exposure and acne.

Hyperpigmentation often occurs when melanocytes are stimulated. Melanocytes are the cells in the skin that produce melanin, which is the pigment that gives skin its color. When more than normal amounts of melanin are produced, dark spots form on the skin. The surplus production of melanin may be triggered by sun exposure, inflammation or hormonal changes.

Sun spots, brown spots, freckles, and melasma are among the most common pigmentation problems.

What is IPL?

IPL (intense pulsed light) also known as photorejuvenation is a skin rejuvenation procedure that is used to reduce sun damage and hyperpigmentation on the face, neck, and chest. IPL may also be used to treat other skin issues such as fine lines, wrinkles, and broken capillaries. The procedure also evens skin tone and gives the skin a more youthful appearance.

IPL Photorejuvenation for hyperpigmentation

The patient’s skin is cleansed before treatment, and then a clear gel is placed over the treatment area. A protective eye shield is used to protect the eyes during IPL treatment.

The IPL device delivers a broad spectrum of intense light that penetrates the outer layer of the skin and is absorbed by the pigments. The heat breaks down the pigments into small particles that rise to the surface, or are cleansed via the immune system. The heat also stimulates collagen, so new, brighter skin cells eventually emerge.

Patients may experience a slight stinging sensation with IPL treatment, but it is not generally painful.

After treatment patients are advised to wear sunscreen and minimize exposure to sunlight for a week or two.

IPL treatment can be customized to suit varying skin tones and skin issues in order to achieve the best results.

How Long Until My Hyperpigmentation Disappears with Laser Treatment?

After IPL photorejuvenation the treated area gets noticeably darker and this can last anywhere from 7-14 days. How long it takes hyperpigmentation to disappear will also vary depending on the area of the body being treated. Hyperpigmentation on the face typically disappears a lot faster than on the chest or arms.

Doctors advise patients to keep the skin well moisturized and hydrated to help the recovery process along.

The type of spots being treated and the depth of the pigmentation also influence how long it will take hyperpigmentation to disappear. The pigmented cells that are targeted during IPL treatment are usually in the epidermis, which is the upper layer of the skin. Once treated, the cells slowly rise to the surface, and this process can take several weeks.

Spots that are close to the surface of the skin will flake off a lot quicker than those that are deep seated. For example, melasma is more difficult to remove when compared to other forms of hyperpigmentation such as sunspots and brown spots, as the pigments are situated deep in the skin.

It typically takes a series of treatments to get the best results with IPL photorejuvenation. This may range from 3-5 treatments, depending on the amount of hyperpigmentation that needs to be corrected.

Are you a good candidate for IPL?

If you have spots on your skin due to excess pigmentation, you may be a good candidate for IPL therapy. It’s the ideal treatment for people that don’t need to undergo a more intensive skin rejuvenation procedure, which will require a lengthy downtime.

Are you ready to book your IPL treatment for hyperpigmentation?

Is PRP Treatment For Hair loss Painful?

Is PRP Treatment For Hair loss Painful?

If you are experiencing hair loss that is making you anxious, Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) treatment may be the solution for you. Hair restoration has traditionally been done using surgical techniques, but PRP is quickly emerging as a popular alternative for men and women wanting to avoid surgery. But what’s the procedure like, and is PRP treatment for hair loss painful.

What is PRP treatment for hair loss?

PRP treatment for hair loss uses the patient’s own blood to facilitate hair restoration, so it’s all natural. Plasma is a key component of the blood, and it contains platelets that are rich in growth factors. PRP has been used in medicine for many years in wound healing, and when used for hair loss, PRP harnesses the power of the growth factors to stimulate the hair follicles, and promote hair growth when follicles are present. PRP also thickens existing hair.

How does PRP treatment work?

Blood is first drawn from the patient’s vein, in much the same way that a routine blood test is performed. The blood is then placed in a centrifuge that spins the blood to separate the plasma from the red blood cells. The plasma which contains the growth factors is injected directly into the scalp, in the thinning or balding areas.

The PRP injections trigger growth in dormant hair follicles, resulting in strong, thick hair.

PRP therapy for hair loss takes less than an hour to perform, which makes it the ideal procedure for those with a busy lifestyle. There may be a little redness and swelling after PRP, but there is minimal downtime, so patients can resume normal activities the following day. The hair growth achieved with PRP is gradual, so results look very natural. Most patients need 3 treatments to achieve optimal results. Sessions are spaced 4-6 weeks apart.

Is PRP treatment for hair loss painful?

For the most part, patients that undergo PRP treatment experience only minimal discomfort. However, pain varies from patient to patient, and different practices have different methods to reduce discomfort. The specific technique used by the surgeon can also determine whether or not patients experience any pain.

Some practices use topical anesthetic, while others offer numbing cream to numb the scalp before the area is injected. Once the scalp is numbed the procedure should be nearly painless, as the PRP is injected using very tiny needles. Therefore as a general rule, PRP treatment for hair loss should be a virtually painless experience.

Benefits of PRP for hair loss

PRP represents the future of hair restoration because it is a simple, effective treatment that does not take a lot of time. This makes it a convenient option for men and women interested in a non-surgical solution for hair loss or thinning.

There is virtually no risk of infection with PRP, because is a natural substance that comes from the patient’s own body.

PRP is an exciting option for hair restoration, because the growth factors are able to revitalize aging hair follicles by providing a fresh source of nutrients to the thinning areas. This leads to a significant improvement in hair density, as new hair cells are produced.

In addition, PRP is a very effective treatment as most people notice results within 3 months. Once the hair begins to grow back in, patients not only look better, they also feel less self-conscious experience an increase in confidence and.

Who is a good candidate?

PRP for hair loss is a good option for men and women in the early stages of hair loss that still have functioning hair follicles. It is also beneficial for people with androgenetic alopecia. The condition is known as male pattern baldness when it affects males.

Although the results of PRP hair restoration are variable, most patients experience positive outcomes. The procedure has a demonstrated track record of safety and efficacy, but it’s important to consult with a surgeon that performs the procedure regularly.
