In the battle against wrinkles, botox is the number one choice. It is the most popular minimally invasive procedure in the US, because it provides the wrinkle-smoothing effects that people are looking for. But how long does it take to get botox, and how long do the effects last.
What is botox?
Botox, or botulinum toxin type A, is a neurotoxin that is made from the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. It is used to temporarily reduce the appearance of moderate to severe dynamic wrinkles i.e. forehead lines, frown lines, and crow’s feet (learn more).
How does botox work
Botox works by relaxing the muscles responsible for dynamic wrinkles. These wrinkles form as a result of the repeated contraction of the muscles when you squint, frown, or smile. When botox is injected, it prevents the signal from the nerves from reaching the muscles. As a result, the muscles relax, and this temporarily erases the overlying wrinkles (click here to learn more).
How long does it take to get Botox?
It only takes about 10 minutes to get botox. Treatment consists of a few injections made into specific muscles using a tiny needle. No anesthesia is required, as the procedure is virtually painless. The effects of botox take approximately 3-5 days to kick in.
How long does botox last?
The results of botox can last up to 4 months.
If you would like to get the best possible results with botox, be sure to consult with a trained, experienced medical professional, preferably a board certified plastic surgeon or dermatologist.
