Is there any recovery time for Lasik procedures?

If you are looking for a way to reduce your dependence on eyeglasses or contact lenses, LASIK may be the solution for you. LASIK can improve your vision, and also improve your quality of life. But is there any recovery time for LASIK procedures?

LASIK
LASIK (Laser Assisted In-Situ Keratomileusis) is a procedure that is performed by an ophthalmologist to correct refractive eye conditions. Refractive eye disorders result in blurry vision, because the light entering the eye does not focus on the retina.  Nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism are common refractive errors.

The Procedure
LASIK is a safe, outpatient procedure that takes about 15 minutes to complete. The ophthalmologist will first create a thin corneal flap in order to access the inner layers of the cornea. An excimer laser is used to reshape the cornea, and the flap is then put back in place. Anesthetic eye drops are put in the eye about 30 minutes before the procedure, so patients generally don’t experience any pain.

Recovery time for LASIK
Healing typically takes place at a very fast rate after LASIK, so recovery time is very short. Most patients will notice some vision improvement within 6-8 hours of treatment, and are able to go back to work the following day. Patients are generally required to return to their ophthalmologist the day after surgery to ensure that healing is progressing as expected. Your vision may fluctuate for several weeks after surgery, but this is quite normal.
