What is recovery time for a neck lift?

If you are considering a neck lift, it’s important to know what to expect during the healing process, in order to determine the best road to recovery.  It’s therefore essential to ask your plastic surgeon what is the recovery time for a neck lift.

A neck lift is a cosmetic procedure that is done to smooth and firm the neck skin, to reduce visible signs of aging.   Aging and rapid weight loss can cause the skin on the neck to look saggy and wrinkled, but a neck lift restores a smoother, more youthful profile.

What’s involved in a neck lift?

During a neck lift the surgeon will remove excess skin, and tighten the neck muscles.  A neck lift can be done in combination with a facelift, to achieve optimal facial rejuvenation (learn more).

What is recovery time for a neck lift?

It typically takes 2-4 weeks to recover from a neck lift.   Patients generally need to take about 2 weeks off work after surgery, and most of the swelling and bruising should resolve by this time.

What to expect during neck lift recovery

Bruising, numbness, and swelling should be expected after a neck lift, but keeping the head elevated will help to minimize swelling.  Rest is recommended for the first few days following surgery, so patients will need help with household chores.  Activities that involve twisting or bending the neck should be avoided during this time, as well as heavy lifting.

The new neck contours become visible within a few weeks, but final results take 3-6 months.
