What’s the best skin cancer treatment?

Skin cancer is a common type of cancer that is closely linked to excess exposure to the sun’s UV rays. Therefore people who work outdoors, should take extra precautions to avoid sundamage. In recent years there have been several developments in cancer treatment, but what’s the best skin cancer treatment.

What’s the best skin cancer treatment?
There is really no ‘best’ treatment for skin cancer, as the choice will depend on the type of tumor, as well as its location, size, and depth of penetration. Melanoma is the most dangerous form of skin cancer, but it can be treated successfully when detected early. Basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma are the other major types.

Melanoma is most commonly treated by surgical excision to remove the cancer cells, and this is usually adequate when it’s in the early stages.  However, additional treatment options may be more suitable when melanoma is in an advanced stage. These include radiation therapy and chemotherapy.

Mohs surgery is usually used to treat both basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma. Surgery involves cutting away the visible skin cancer in a precise manner, so that only a small amount of healthy tissue is excised. Each layer of tissue is examined under a microscope, until the entire tumor is removed.

Cyrotherapy, which is a procedure in which lesions on the surface of the skin are frozen, can also be used to treat early stage basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma.
